NIST-BASED Checklist for Telework and Remote Access Security

Telework or remote work has become a way of life with the sudden advent of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Even after countries and communities lift stay-at-home orders, a high number of people and companies may continue with their telework practices if it is advantageous to their business models.

The burden now falls on the shoulders of security personnel and IT managers everywhere to ensure the security of their company’s networks and data in this new scenario of large scale telework and remote access.

This checklist was prepared based on guidelines provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and uses recommendations and controls specified in the NIST SP 800-46 Rev 2 (Guide to Enterprise Telework, Remote Access, and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Security) and NIST SP 800-53 Rev 4 (Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations) publications.

In this checklist you can expect to see the following, among other things:

    • A condensed management checklist for telework and remote access security measures to consider.
    • Focus on widely accepted security measures and policies.
    • Guidelines and best practices recommended for teleworking personnel.
